Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) on Friday, the 5th of April 2019
held her 9th Matriculation exercise. The grand occasion was graced by
parents, guardians and well-wishers, who trooped out in their numbers to
support the newly admitted students.

Speaking during the
occasion, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eno Ibanga rejoiced with
matriculating students, noting that “it is a great privilege to be among
those who have finally scaled all the
hurdles to gain admission into the University”. He went further to sound
a note of caution against anti-social vices that are prevalent in the
society

“I must warn you
against 3 antisocial vices which the University will not tolerate –
students’ involvement in cultism, examination misconduct and indecent
dressing.

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, His Excellency Dcn. Udom
Emmanuel on March 12, 2018 signed the Cultism and other Violent Behavior
Prohibition Order 2018, proscribing cultism in Akwa Ibom State”

The newly admitted students were advised not to abuse the social media
and were requested never to publish stories concerning the University
online, without the express permission of the Registrar.

Furthermore,
Prof Ibanga added that the University Senate has approved a Whistle
Blowing policy in the University, whereby any student that provides
verifiable and actionable intelligence on issues of Rape, Impersonation,
Payment for marks, Sex for marks, cultism, etc will be rewarded with
the sum of N100,000, while guarantying the protection and confidentiality of the Whistle Blower.

Prof. Ibanga thanked the Akwa Ibom State government and stakeholders
who have contributed towards the fast pace of development in the
University and reassured all that the institution was poised now more
than ever, to compete favorably with other institutions in the country
and beyond.
